What’s the Saint Lucian Carnival All About?
The Saint Lucian Carnival has long been part of the island’s culture. The celebration of the African and Catholic heritage of the country. Originally it was held to mark the end of the season of Lent. From the 90’s dates were set to help the tourism industry take full advantage of this wonderful series of events.
The Saint Lucian Carnival has become one of the most exciting annual celebrations in the Caribbean, providing world class entertainment, live music, vibrant parties, glittering parades and more. Since Calabash Cove is less than 5 miles from Castries, this makes it the perfect place to stay. It is within easy reach of the carnival events and concerts, many of which are free.
Attend the band competitions or one of the wild evenings, such as the Colour Me Red Party. VIP tickets ensure you skip the line, have great seats, enjoy plenty of food and top shelf drinks. Red powder is absolutely everywhere!
Parade of the Bands
The Saint Lucian Carnival culminates in a huge Parade of Bands. It is a colorful and entertaining display of local artistry and revelry. The parade winds its way along a three-mile route into Castries along the John Compton Highway. Therefore, it seems that everyone on the island’s either taking part or in route to cheer and dance.
The focus of the parade is the many live bands playing Caribbean steel drums, brass instruments, electric keyboards and other instruments as they march or ride past on floats. In between there are groups of dancing feather-clad girls sashaying Rio-style to the rhythm of the calypso music.
