Aloe Vera is a stemless or very short-stemmed plant growing to 60–100 cm (24–39 in) tall, spreading by offsets. The leaves are thick and fleshy, green to grey-green, with some varieties showing white flecks on their upper and lower stem surfaces. The margin of the leaf is serrated like a knife and has small white teeth. It flowers during the summer months.
At Calabash Cove we grown our own. Directly adjacent to the Ti Spa is a bed with dozens of plants. In addition to being used in the Spa it is popular with team members for consumption as tea and juice.
The medicinal values are still disputed. It may be a genuine case of mind over matter. The Verdict on use for heartburn, alternative mouthwash, blood sugar control, digestive benefits, skin care and breast cancer cure may still be pending.
