Hello Vera

Aloe Vera is a stemless or very short-stemmed plant growing to 60–100 cm (24–39 in) tall, spreading by offsets. The leaves are thick and fleshy, green to grey-green, with some varieties showing white flecks on their upper and lower stem surfaces. The margin of the leaf is serrated like a knife and has small white teeth. It flowers during the summer months.

An evergreen perennial, it originates from the Arabian Peninsula but grows wild in tropical climates around the world and is cultivated for agricultural and medicinal uses.

Home grown

At Calabash Cove we grown our own. Directly adjacent to the Ti Spa is a bed with dozens of plants. In addition to being used in the Spa it is popular with team members for consumption as tea and juice.

Some people us it for decorative purposes and grow Aloe successfully indoors as a potted plant.

The medicinal values are still disputed. It may be a genuine case of mind over matter. The Verdict on use for heartburn, alternative mouthwash, blood sugar control, digestive benefits, skin care and breast cancer cure may still be pending.

Once you have a sunburn and the Spa therapist at Calabash Cove gently massages your back with only minutes before collected fresh Aloe Vera bringing you relief, it is of little consequence if the reprieve is clinically proven or not, as long as it helps to ease the sting.

Guests at times like it so much that the take fresh Aloe Vera leaves home. If kept in the refrigerator tightly wrapped, in a container or sealed bag it can last a while.

We of course just step outside every time we need fresh Aloe and pick it for you.
